Founded in 1991, The Friday Night Concert Series is a FREE, family-friendly event held on the Pedestrian Plaza in downtown Iowa City. The event features live music performed by local bands each and every Friday night from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. beginning in mid-May and running till early September (excluding the weekends of the Iowa Arts Festival and Iowa City Jazz Festival).

While children climb on the playground equipment, a diverse audience of all ages and cultural backgrounds (whose numbers range from a few hundred to a few thousand people) come down to dance or kick back and relax in a lawnchair and enjoy the FREE music.

The Iowa City Public Library is also open till 8 p.m. on Fridays, so stop in an pick up a good book!

And remember, there are dozens of downtown restaurants and a wide variety of food carts downtown, so come hungry, fuel up, boogie down, and make a night of it!
