In the case of rain, the Press Citizen's Friday Night Concert Series will be held in the outdoor seating area of the Bread Garden Market in the Pedestrian Plaza.  Additional tents may be added to allow for a larger crowd to still attend the band scheduled. 

Summer of the Arts encourages the community to come out and enjoy this great free, family friendly entertainment each Friday through September 18 - rain or shine!

An additional concert has been added to the tail end of the Friday Night Concert Series lineup and features the Beaker Brothers on Friday September 18, 2009.

The Beaker Brothers were set to perform on June 12, but the show was cancelled due to severe weather and rain.  Please mark your calendars for this new event and, if necessary, download the updated copy of our printable schedule.

The first Friday Concert will be held on May 21 (a special Thursday Performance) and continue through August 28, 2009.  All concerts take place from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the Weatherdance Fountain Stage outside the Sheraton Iowa City Hotel in Downtown Iowa City.

Remember that when you attend the Friday Night Concert Series, you should bring your own lawn chairs to be the most comfortable. Seating on the Pedestrian Plaza is limited. 

Founded in 1991, The Friday Night Concert Series is a FREE, family-friendly event held on the Pedestrian Plaza in downtown Iowa City. The event features live music performed by local bands each and every Friday night from 6:30 - 9:30 p.m. beginning in mid-May and running till early September (excluding the weekends of the Iowa Arts Festival and Toyota-Scion of Iowa City Jazz Festival).

While children climb on the playground equipment, a diverse audience of all ages and cultural backgrounds (whose numbers range from a few hundred to a few thousand people) come down to dance or kick back and relax in a lawnchair and enjoy the FREE music.

The Iowa City Public Library is also open till 8 p.m. on Fridays, so stop in an pick up a good book!

And remember, there are dozens of downtown restaurants and a wide variety of food carts downtown, so come hungry, fuel up, boogie down, and make a night of it!
