All of the MidWestOne Bank Free Movies take place on the University of Iowa Pentacrest, outside of MacBride Hall in downtown Iowa City. Start times change from week to week with movies starting at sunset. We may feature music or special activities prior to the movie each week.

June 13        Cool Runnings, 1993, 97 minutes, Rated PG
Derice Bannock (Leon) fails to qualify for Jamaica’s Olympic track team, so he recruits former (and disgraced) Olympian bobsledder Irv Blitzer (John Candy) to coach Jamaica’s first bobsled team. Despite numerous setbacks and the lack of snow, the underdog athletes make it to Calgary for the winter games and prove that they deserve to be there.

Start the evening off laughing as comic duo Bud Abbott and Lou Costello encounter classic horror film monsters played by legendary actors Lon Chaney, Jr. and Bela Lugosi.  Then shiver in fright as the man-beast and mute Monster wage battle.
   
June 27        Beetlejuice, 1988, 92 minutes, Rated PG 
A recently deceased ghostly couple hires Betelgeuse (Michael Keaton), the afterlife's leading bio-exorcist, to frighten a family of social misfits from the couple's former home. But Betelgeuse becomes too much to handle and the ghostly pair enlists the help of a dark and brooding teenager (Winona Ryder) to banish Betelgeuse from their home in this supernatural comedy.   

July 11        Remember the Titans, 2000, 108 minutes, Rated PG
This inspirational film chronicles the true story of the undefeated 1971 T.C. Williams team of Alexandria, Virginia, which was the first integrated high school team in the state. Denzel Washington stars as Coach Herman Boone, who succeeded in bringing the players together as a state championship team.
   
July 18        A League of Their Own, 1992, 128 minutes, Rated PG
During World War II, when much of the male population was in the trenches, the first all-women’s baseball league was formed. Dottie Hinson (Geena Davis) and Kit Keller (Lori Petty) are sisters recruited to keep the sport alive. Their teammates range from a former dance hall hostess to a home run slugger to a jersey girl to a couple of farmer’s daughters.

July 25        Arsenic and Old Lace, 1944, 118 minutes, Not Rated
Based on Joseph Kesselring's hit Broadway play, this madcap comedy is a blend of the bizarre and the mundane. A mild-mannered drama critic (Cary Grant) learns that his two kindly and loveable aunts have been poisoning people with elderberry wine. Two murderers (Peter Lorre and Raymond Massey) move into the aunts’ house with the idea of adding a few corpses of their own.

A barrage of UFOs surprises an Indiana town and leads lineman Roy Leary on a journey he will never forget. Richard Dreyfuss and acclaimed director Francois Truffaut star in this Academy Award® winning film that sparked a whole new genre of contemporary extra-terrestrial film.

Aug. 15        The Wizard of Oz, 1939, 102 minutes, G
Kansas girl Dorothy Gale (Judy Garland) and her dog, Toto, are whisked by a tornado into the magical land of Oz in this much loved musical adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s classic novel. Dorothy joins the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion on an adventure down the Yellow Brick Road to persuade the Wizard to help her find her way home.   


Aug. 22        Ferris Bueller's Day Off, 1986, 103 minsutes, PG-13
John Hughes' magical comedy about how playing hooky for a single day can produce a lifetime's worth of adventure. Matthew Broderick is Ferris, a guy who knows the value of a day off.
