University of Iowa Dance Marathon is thrilled to serve as a sand team for Sand in the City and proud to support our community and the arts. Our team is made up of University of Iowa student participants of UI Dance Marathon.  University of Iowa Dance Marathon creates and sustains special projects to provide emotional and financial support for pediatric oncology and bone marrow transplant patients and their families treated at University of Iowa Children's Hospital.

UI Dance Marathon is the largest student-run philanthropic organization at The University of Iowa and is affiliated with Children’s Miracle Network.  To date, Dance Marathon has raised over $7.5 million dollars for children being treated right here in Iowa City. UI Dance Marathon is a year-round volunteer, social, and business organization that culminates with a 24-hour BIG Event.  The 2009 BIG Event was a record-breaking event that hosted over 1,300 student Dancers, 400 community and campus volunteers, 800 patient families, and raised an incredible $1,030,428.15; all FOR THE KIDS!

This year’s BIG Event will be held February 5-6, 2010 at the Iowa Memorial Union.
         
We hope our sand sculpture design effectively portrays the support we strive to give young patients and their families battling cancer at University of Iowa children’s Hospital. We thank you for your votes.
