Team Discovery Channel is independent of any one organization and is in no way affiliated with the Discovery Channel.  The team was sponsored by Gasby's convenience stores 1310 South Gilbert, KFC on Riverside Drive, Brookstin Flooring in Coralville, and Homewood Electric, as well as friends and family of our team members. 
       
Team Discovery Channel was formed by Mark Homewood after he read an article about Sand in the City in the Press-Citizen.  He raised sponsorship money from two of his employers; Mike, a friend who works at KFC; the family business; and friends and family.  Team members are fellow Gasby's employees, fellow Brookstin employees, and own Rick Klemesrud, Mike from KFC, two of his sisters, his niece, his roommate, friends and a few customers from the gas station. 
       
The name Team Discovery Channel comes from a Simpson's episode in which the boys of the town are going to rescue the town's lemon tree from Shelbyville and they are breaking up into teams.  Martin Prince shouts out "Team Discovery Channel!" as his suggestion.
       
So if you like to root for the underdog, I'm pretty sure that's us!  Support Summer of the Arts by voting for the Discovery Channel with your dollars.
