Summer of the Arts Mission and History

The mission of Summer of the Arts is to bring people together in the Iowa City area to experience, learn about, and enjoy the arts!

Created in 2005, Summer of the Arts is a 501(c)3 non-profit umbrella organization that works to encourage and facilitate the collaborative efforts to create a summer filled with arts and cultural entertainment in the Iowa City Area.  The organization started with four founding festivals: The Iowa Arts Festival, Iowa City Jazz Festival, Friday Night Concert Series, and Free Movie Series. The goal was to bring synergy in marketing and fundraising, while ensuring each event maintains its own unique identity.  Since that time we have added more major festivals: Sand in the City (2009-2012), the Saturday Night Concert Series, MusicIC, the Iowa Soul Festival and Celebrate the Season.

Having all of these events produced by one organization gives our sponsors more value for their financial contributions and ensures the community will have hundreds of free, high quality arts, and cultural events each and every summer far into the future!  One of the best things: our events are FREE and FAMILY-FRIENDLY!

When you head to downtown Iowa City this summer, get ready for fun, a few surprises, and the most premier collection of FREE cultural entertainment in the area.

Thank you to all of the sponsors and volunteers who make these events possible.
We could not have done it without you!
